Founded in 1997 by President Nelson Mandela, Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, and Dr Anton Rupert, Peace Parks Foundation set out to rewild southern Africa and connect its wild spaces. What began as a bold mission to unite countries through transboundary conservation has grown into Africa’s largest nature conservation initiative, placing over 11 million hectares under protection. Over the past 27 years, Peace Parks has evolved to work hand-in-hand with communities and governments through long-term partnerships that support local leadership, build lasting capacity, and keep people at the centre of conservation.
